Results
Visual observations. 62 times of minima for 10 eclipsing binaries. 24 estimates of 8 physical variables.
Report
On July 5 – 14, 2002, the expedition “VARIABLE 2002” took place at the Astronomical Observatory on Kolonické sedlo, which is a detached workplace of the Vihorlatská Observatory in Humenné.
The aim of the expedition was the visual observation of short-period eclipsing binaries in accordance with the international observation program B.R.N.O., the visual observation of physical variable stars in accordance with the international observation program MEDÚZA, the determination of the minimum moments of eclipsing binaries, the creation of a light curve of changes in the brightness of variable stars, the processing of the observed data into a protocol form and preparation of protocols for publication. The results of the observations during the expedition will contribute to the refinement of the parameters of the observed short-period binaries and, in the case of physical variables, will provide information on the current activity of the star.
The expedition, which was attended by 21 observers from all over Slovakia, was expertly led by RNDr. Igor Kudzej, CSc. The event was organized and financially supported by the Slovak Central Observatory in Hurbanovo, the Vihorlat Observatory in Humenné and the Local Organization of the Slovak Union of Amateur Astronomers in Snina with the financial support of the City of Snina. For some of the participants, students of the Gymnasium in Snina, the expedition took place as part of the “Astronomy for Youth” project, which is financially supported by the Children’s Hour grant program of the Slovak Children’s Foundation. The aim of the mentioned project is to provide students with informal education in the field of astronomy through events with an astronomical theme. , physics, philosophy, to create an environment for the all-round development of their abilities, skills and talent, to enable young people to work with a telescope, to teach them the basics of scientific work, and thus to positively influence their personal development.
Since the weather during the 10-day duration of the expedition was excellent, 62 protocols were processed from night observations of 10 eclipsing binaries: IV Cas, RZ Cas, RT And, AK Her, BH Dra, SW Lac, AR Lac, EG Cep, XY Cep, BX Peg and 24 protocols for 8 physical variable stars: R Sct, RS Cyg, PP Per, S Per, T Per, NSV 793, NSV 783, NSV 791. Several times a walk was made to the swimming pool Kolonický Bejvoč and once along the Small Path of Planets from Observatory to Sninské Rybníky.
